
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
David Wright - Deputy Regional Administrator Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)-Dallas
David entered CMS through the Presidential Management Internship program in June 1993. During his nineteen years with the agency, he has worked in provider terminations, beneficiary services, media relations, Medicare policy, State Representative, hospital team lead, Special Assistant to the Regional Administrator, Manager of the Long Term Care Enforcement Branch, and Associate Regional Administrator for the Division of Survey and Certification. In that position, he was responsible for the professional and clinical staff charged with the certification and enforcement (including EMTALA) of over 9,000 long term and acute care Medicare-certified providers and suppliers in a five-state region. David currently serves as the Deputy Regional Administrator for the CMS-Dallas Regional Office.
David received his undergraduate degree in Political Science at Texas A&M University, and his Masters of Public Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas. He has served as a member of the Adjunct Faculty at both Brookhaven Community College and the University of Texas at Dallas.
Dr. Mary Ellen Bluntzer, HOH Board President
Mary is a board certified internal medicine doctor who has been in private practice for 25 years. She was certified in addiction medicine in 1988. She volunteers for the Human Rights Initiative doing forensic examinations for torture survivors. She was a founding member of the Dallas Historic Tree Coalition. She was co-presenter at Texas Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, "Bearing Witness: the Cost of Caring," in 1993, one of the first sessions ever to address Compassion Fatigue. She has published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of American Medical Association, and the Journal of Critical Illness.
