About Us: DAPS, the Dallas Area Philosophical Society,
is an organization of local college Philosophy departments whose intention is
to move the spirit of philosophy from the halls of academia to the realities of
the community. The purpose is to engage
professors, students and the community in the process of philosophical inquiry
on topics of political, social and economic interest. It is meant to be a sphere of rational
discourse from varied perspectives as an antidote to the increasingly divisive,
ideological and emotional polemics which typifies much current public debate.
What we do: DAPS, in addition to trying to provide a nexus where professional, amateur and student philosophers can meet, organizes annual panel discussions on various topics in an attempt to provide rational analysis from a variety of perspectives. The panels include not only academics, but community members, experts in related fields and students.
Current Affiliated College/University Members Include:
Jack O'Connor - North Central Texas College - DAPS Coordinator
Jerrod Scott - Brookhaven College
Luisa Forest - Richland College
Carl Hasler - Colin County College
Brian Harding - Texas Woman's University
Other Affiliations:
Anthony Sanders - DAPS Student/Community Liaison - Philosophia Eudaimonia President
